To ensure the sustainable operation of the Austronesian Forum, the Republic of China (Taiwan) government approved the Six-Year Plan for the Austronesian Forum (2020–2025) in March 2019. The Plan encompasses five major strategies, starting from linguistic and cultural exchanges at the core and expanding towards regional industrial development, academic/policy research, human resources development, and basic administrative affairs. Sixteen specific undertakings under these strategies are listed in the table below.

The Six-Year Plan for the Austronesian Forum clearly outlines the responsibilities of the Forum, which shall be fulfilled jointly by all member and observer states. As President Tsai Ing-wen of the Republic of China (Taiwan) stated so eloquently on March 23, 2019 at the appreciation banquet in Palau during her Oceans of Democracy tour, “We shall strengthen our multilateral cooperative efforts with our brothers and sisters in the Pacific region to preserve its diverse cultures, cultivate talent among the Austronesian peoples, and spur regional industrial development.”
